Diaphragm
Control Valves
Air Operated Single or Double Seated Steam,
Air, Gas, Water, Oil Service
Types 1401 - 1401R single or double seated: For
sensitive control of steam, air or gas in refineries,
power and industrial plants, the Diaphragm Motor Valve
combines with an air operated Pressure Controller to make
a rugged, compact, pilot operated pressure reducing or
pressure relief valve. This type of regulator is well
suited to both indoor and outdoor installations, all
essential parts being contained in weatherproof
enclosures. The controller may be mounted on the valve or
on a control panel some distance from the valve.
The operation of the unit is simple. The control
pressure is piped to the pressure controller and acts on
the instrument to control the flow of air or other
operating medium to the diaphragm chamber of the main
valve. In the case of a direct acting pressure reducing
valve, the control pressure is taken from the discharge
side of the main valve. When the desired reduced pressure
is obtained, the pilot valve in the instrument opens
allowing the operating medium to load the diaphragm of
the main valve and close it. As the reduced pressure
falls, the pilot closes and the pressure on the diaphragm
is bled off through an adjustable orifice in the
controller and the main valve opens, allowing the reduced
pressure to build up.
The 1401 Regulator includes a direct or reverse acting
single or double seated Diaphragm Motor Valve and
Pressure Controller with pressure gages for indicating
control, operating and diaphragm pressures and a filter
for operating medium. When ordering state service unit is
to perform, size of valve, pressure and temperature
specifications.
Types 149 0 149R
single or double seated: This Diaphragm Motor Valve
can be furnished single or double seated with
direct or reverse acting disc. With a
reverse acting disc the spring holds the valve closed and
the operating pressure on the diaphragm opens it, thus
the valve is closed should the operating pressure fail.
Pilot Valve may be ordered two or
three-way with direct or reverse acting disc. With the
three-way Pilot Valve the bleedoff is open only when
exhausting from the diaphragm chamber of the main valve.
The function of the Pilot Valve is
to control the operating pressure to the Diaphragm Motor
Valve, which closes when the reduced or service pressure
builds up to that for which the pilot valve is set.
Control pressure is piped to the pilot valve diaphragm
chamber. Changes in load demand cause the pilot valve to
admit or relieve operating pressure on the diaphragm of
the main valve. To change the reduced pressure, simply
adjust the pilot valve spring.
Where better than average
regulation is required yet does not justify instrument
Pilot control the 149 Diaphragm Motor Valves will prove
satisfactory.
The operating medium may be air,
water, oil or steam from an independent source or may be
the same as that being controlled, in which case it is
advisable to install a Type D Pressure Reducing Valve
ahead of the Pilot Valve to insure a constant operating
pressure.
