Solenoid
Valves
Pilot Piston Operated, Semi-Direct Lift or Direct Lift
Normally Closed or Normally Open Steam, Air, Gas, Water,
Oil Service
The Type E direct operated Valve
is simple in design, sturdy in construction, and
dependable in service.
Line Pressure is the main actuating force. Coil lifts
pilot valve only, allowing pressure in upper chamber to
escape through piston, and line pressure opens valve.
When pilot drops, pressure builds up over piston through
timing orifice and line pressure holds valve closed.
Valve is tight closing and can be timed for different
closing intervals. Avoids damaging vibration due to water
hammer. Quick opening and closing prevents wire drawing
when used on steam.
Piston Ring of special material insures long life.
Cylinder and piston combination actually improves on
continued use.
Coils are glass insulated, moisture proof, quiet and
low current consumption. May be removed without breaking
connection. Outlets may be placed in any direction.
The use of the Line Pressure as the main actuating
force permits full flow in all sizes, on air, oil and
water pressures from 1 to 300 psi. Maximum Steam pressure
200 psi.
The body material is bronze, the pilot valve material
all stainless steel with one piece point and stem.
Stainless steel springs.
Stainless Steel renewable main valves are furnished as
standard for all sizes.
All sizes 1/4" to 3" have full flow. The
flow is equivalent to the same size standard globe valve.
The Type E Solenoid Valve should be selected when
operating pressures are below the 20 psi minimum required
for the Type EA shown on page 21.
Also available are valves with manual
adjustment of valve closing speed on liquids.
Operating sequence:
TO OPEN: When current is applied, the plunger lifts
pilot Valve from seat relieving the pressure on top of
piston, allowing pressure release through pilot Valve
orifice. Since pilot orifice is larger than timing
orifice pressure on the lower side of piston is greater
and line pressure subsequently opens inner valve.
TO CLOSE: When current is off, pilot Valve drops into
pilot orifice preventing escape of media through piston.
This causes pressure to build up above the piston through
timing orifice. The spring returns the piston to the
closed position and line pressure on top of piston holds
Valve closed.
Applications:
WATER: Feed water make up, float level control,
cooling of air compressors, automatic batching equipment.
AIR & GAS SIGNALS: Unloading air compressors.
STEAM: Temperature control in heating and processing.
OIL: Hydraulic elevators (manual control) closing
adjustment.
Data required when ordering for both Type E and EA:
Pipe Size - Media used - Maximum and Minimum
pressures. Maximum temp. Kind of current, cycles if A.C.
Approximate back pressure. Continuous or intermittent
service. Longest time coil to be energized. Standard
Voltages - 110-220 Volt, 60-50-25 cycle A.C. 440 Volt,
60-50 cycle A.C. -115-230 Volt. D.C. Normally open or
normally closed.
