Constant Pressure Expansion Valves

parke003.jpg (3901 bytes)Function
The constant pressure expansion valve responds to outlet pressure. It meters liquid refrigerant to the evaporator, maintaining a constant evaporator pressure. Refrigerant flows at a rate that exactly matches compressor capacity.

Applications
The constant pressure expansion valve is ideal control for many refrigeration applications. Typical examples are:
Ice flakers Water coolers
Ice cream makers Dehumidifiers
Cold drink dispensers Slush machines

The valve also can be used as a low load protection device in hot gas by-pass systems.

Advantages
-
Simple, inexpensive, reliable.

- One valve can be employed for 3 basic refrigerants. It has adjustment range of 5" to 90 psig.

- Optional bleeds provide complete system unloading when machine is de-energized.

- Maintains constant evaporator pressure under all load conditions.

- Provides freeze-up protection on a/c systems by keeping the evaporator above the freezing point at low loads.

- Automatically protects against motor overloads during system start-up.

- Permits use of low starting torque motors,

- Protects against overloads caused by high amperage draw by maintaining constant suction even at high (ambient conditions) head pressure.

- Balanced port design maintains steady outlet pressure regardless of changing inlet (condenser) pressure.

- Large equalizer passageway insures that oil won't affect diaphragm operation under low loads and when valve is mounted upside down.

Operation

Three forces control the operation of the valve:

Force 1 - the adjustable range spring above the diaphragm It moves the diaphragm down, opening the valve.

Force 2 - the closing spring beneath the diaphragm. It moves the push rod and ball assembly up, closing the valve.

Force 3 - the outlet pressure acting under the diaphragm. This is the pressure the valve controls when the spring force, F1, is equal to the sum of forces F2 and F3.
